Go Green and Disaster Risk Reduction Go to School and Campus in Aceh

Last year I volunteered to be the trainer on disaster risk reduction (DRR) for a Go Green and DRR Go to School and Campus project. This project was organized by WALHI Aceh, a leading national environmental conservation NGO, and DRR-A UNDP, aiming 16 schools and campuses in Aceh.

The project was a low-cost DRR and environmental education project, as we encouraged the student associations in our schools and universities to minimize the training cost and make some efforts for fundraising before sharing the minimized cost with us. With banners designed to be used in all 16 rounds, and held in school halls, classrooms, or even the campus' cafeteria, we managed to gain 50-150 participants, making more than 1,000 youth in total participated in our trainings. To me, the best things of that project were that we motivated the students to start their own DRR and environmental conservation projects, we planted fruit trees at the schoolyards (that will not only green the campuses but also will give some joy when they start producing their fruits), and the best of all, I made friends with other WALHI Volunteers.I was also one of the trainers for WALHI Aceh's training for their young activists.

Looking back, here are some news on that project, published by WALHI and various local media in Aceh. All are written in Bahasa Indonesia. :)
